The Douay–Rheims Bible (abbreviated as D–R and DV) is a translation of the Bible from the Latin Vulgate into English made by members of the English School, Douai, within the service of the Catholic Church. The New Testament portion used to be revealed in Reims, France, in 1582. The Old Testament portion used to be revealed in two volumes thirty years later by the School of Douai. This translation used to be replaced by a revision undertaken by bishop Richard Challoner; the New Testament in 1749; the Old Testament in 1750. The Challoner revision of the Douay–Rheims continues to be frequently the Bible of number of more traditional English-speaking Catholics.
